Course Concept
Calculus forms the basis for a large number of other courses in a wide variety of majors. It is an extremely important tool for students studying STEM, Economics, Analytics, Data Sciences, Business and also forms the foundation of all Mathematics for students of Grade 11/12 and at the University level.
Calculus is a powerful set of tools that can provide great insight in a wide range of fields. These tools come out of an understanding of differential and integral calculus in conjunction with sequences & series and differential equations. Such methods of analysis increase our ability to model real-life phenomena. This course builds the concept of using series as a tool of analysis and develops the skill of visualisation and computation.
Calculus 1 & 2 : Introduction to & Applications of Calculus
Course Concept
An introduction to differential calculus starting from first principles to applications such as optimization and kinematics. Following differential calculus, we will lead into integration, again from first principles, and cover various methods of integration as well as applications such as volumes, areas, and kinematics.
Pre-requisites are: Pre-Calculus: functions and trigonometry.
Why take this course?
Calculus is integral to develop an intuition for math and sets a strong foundation for future math studies and applications. For those in the IB Diploma Programme, the study of Calculus will give them a head start to Grade 12 and allow them to explore interesting and complicated topics for Extended Essays and Math Explorations.
Furthermore, students who wish to strengthen their math foundations for further study in fields such as economics, business, computer science etc. and want a refresher or have not learned calculus in depth, should also take this course to ensure they have a head start on university level mathematics and help GPA levels in their first year at university.
This course is recommended for:
- IBDP students who have completed one year of Mathematics at the higher level or standard level
- Those who need to complete math requirements at the university level and want a head start on that content.
(Aligns to Calculus I and II at the university level)
Calculus 3: Advanced Calculus and Introduction to Multivariable Calculus
Course Concept
This course will cover the study of sequences and series and its applications extending to Taylor and Power series. This will be followed by an introduction to differential calculus for functions of more than one variable and its applications.
Pre-requisites are: Differential and Integral Calculus and Vectors.
Why take this course?
These advanced applications of calculus, especially with the introduction of multivariable calculus will help students in the IBDP explore complex topics for the Explorations and Extended Essays, especially those geared toward analytical mathematics.
Furthermore, this is the core of the foundations of university level math and sets the tone for courses such as Differential Equations and Linear Algebra which are important for anyone pursuing Physical sciences, Economics or Computer Science. A head start on this will help boost GPA levels in university
This course is recommended for:
- Students who have a robust ability to differentiate and integrate single variable functions.
- Students who wish to complete IBDP internal assessments in applications of calculus and those who wish to get a head start on the university level “Calculus II” course will also benefit from this course.
- Furthermore, students who wish to pursue STEM Economics, or Business majors at the university level will benefit from this course.
(Aligns to Calculus II and III at the University Level)

I really enjoyed this course. Mr Nandish was a really great mentor. Even though Calculus was something new for me but Mr. Nandish made it so simple and easy for me to understand. This course has prepared me for starting calculus in school. Very great course for the students who are starting with calculus.
I really enjoyed learning calculus from the basics and being taught about each and every small detail that is needed to know to succeed in the complicated parts. I feel like this is a good course to take up before school starts as it helps to get your foundations better and help you do better in class. With this course, I’ve been able to participate more in class as I know what is going on and I understand the ways to work with calculus
